House history

Built in 1910 by Richard M. Norrish, Oswego's prominent baker and confectioner, The Reid-Tanner House exemplifies the timeless beauty of Oswego's golden age. Located in the historic Washington Square District, the double lot and buildings were owned by William A. Reid, founder of Reid & Company hardware established in the late 1800s. The house is uniquely designed as a mirror image duplex, intentionally built for two generations of families to share. William A. Reid and his son Charles A. Reid owned the property from 1912 to 1962 when the deed was transferred to Nelson and Ruth Tanner. The Tanners lived in the house for decades before Ruth Tanner left the property to her grandchildren Dennis, Doren and Justin Norfleet.
In early 2017 a small family owned company named MARINA CNY LLC purchased the house with hopes of restoration. With a little sweat and help from the Horning and Robbins families, the colonial revival has been beautifully preserved for future generations to enjoy. The house includes many of the original details such as hand carved wood, brass & crystal light fixtures and original butler's pantry.
